The Greenhouse Effect property of an object represents the increase of the surface temperature of the object due to the object's atmosphere. This atmospheric heating is known as the Greenhouse effect.

Greenhouse Effect is generally a read-only property and is calculated automatically by Universe Sandbox as the difference between the object's surface temperature and effective temperature. For Earth and Mars, Greenhouse Effect can be set by the user.

Property Details[edit | edit source]

Location[edit | edit source]

The Greenhouse Effect property is located in the Atmosphere section of the Surface tab of an object's properties panel. This section is only visible for Terrestrial Planets.

Units[edit | edit source]

Greenhouse Effect can be viewed and edited using the following units:

  • Kelvin (K) is the SI base unit for temperature
  • Degrees Fahrenheit (°F)
  • Degrees Celsius (°C)

Conversions between these three units are as follows:

°C = K - 273

°F = (9/5)°C + 32
