The Average Temperature of an object represents the average temperature on the surface of the object. For Planetary Bodies, the Average Temperature is calculated by averaging across the Temperature map of the object's surface.

The Average Temperature property can affect an object's appearance: For example, at higher temperatures, a planet will begin to glow. At very high temperatures, the object will evaporate.

While the user can change the Average Temperature in the properties panel, it is continually recalculated as time passes in the simulation.

Location[ | ]

The Average Temperature property of a Planetary Body can be found in the Overview tab and at the top of the Surface tab.

The Average Temperature of an object is also displayed in its mini-info panel.

Units[ | ]

Average Temperature can be viewed and edited using the following units:

  • Kelvin (K) is the SI base unit for temperature
  • Degrees Fahrenheit (°F)
  • Degrees Celsius (°C)

Conversions between these three units are as follows:

°C = K - 273

°F = (9/5)°C + 32
